Amazing award success!
We're delighted to share the news that one of our schools, the Axholme Academy, has scooped two awards in a national media competition. The Ax News (Feb 2020 edition) won Best Newspaper, Best Print and Design, and was highly commended in the Front Page category in the Shine School Media awards in June 2020. You can read more about the awards at www.shine-schoolawards.org/ and see the winning newspaper in our Archive section.
Welcome to the the award-winning University of Lincoln
School Newspaper Project
Make your own professionally-printed newspaper with journalism experts – at your school or in our own newsrooms – in a day
Welcome to the School Newspaper Project - a unique and award-winning scheme now in its tenth year which offers school and college students the opportunity to make their own newspapers with the help of professional journalists, journalism lecturers and undergraduates.
We aim to give students an experience of working in a busy newsroom, producing real journalism which is then professionally printed in a full colour, 16 page newspaper. The project brings together volunteers with a wealth of journalism experience and design equipment, enabling students to experience all the different roles involved in putting a newspaper together.
Since 2009, thousands of students have taken part in the project,
which is run by the Lincoln School of English and Journalism at
he University of Lincoln, and over 280,000 newspapers have been
printed by our generous supporters Mortons of Horncastle.
If you would like more details about the project or would like to discuss booking a date for your school, please get in touch with project leader Tim Greenfield using the contact form on this website or email him at
We look forward to hearing from you.
"There was a fantastic atmosphere around the ‘newsroom’ which ran throughout the school. Moreover, the excitement of the children in the school when they obtained the paper was intoxicating – what I can only describe as one of those moments that teachers live for!"
Laura Greaves, teacher, South Axholme Academy, North Lincolnshire
"I have just read the Frederick Gough Times. Wow! I can’t thank you enough for giving your time to inspire our students and also produce a paper that reinforces the community feel at Frederick Gough and have a positive, feel good impact in the school."
Ben Lawrance, Headteacher, Frederick Gough School, Scunthorpe
